New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr turns up the heat in a smoking hot, emotionally compelling romance that takes you into the world of Manhattan’s elite. Meet Jeremy McQueen, a sexy, intense, brooding entrepreneur who goes after what he wants, and Phoebe St. Claire, a socialite-turned-CEO who’s been drifting through life searching for something she thought she’d never find again–the right man to share her future.
Phoebe St. Claire has devoted herself to saving her family’s hotel empire–but her best efforts have not been good enough. With her whole world in turmoil, the tenacious go-getter turns to the once love of her life. Far from innocent, Jeremy McQueen was the guy from the wrong side of the tracks who her parents would never have approved of. Their years apart have only made the sexy bad boy more irresistible than ever–and their reunion is explosive.
When she asks Jeremy to help her salvage her family business, he agrees immediately, with only one condition–he wants her in his bed.
But soon surprising circumstances leave Phoebe reeling. Was this fairy tale romance just too good to be true? Will Jeremy’s secrets pull them apart all over again?
THIS IS A STANDALONE SECOND-CHANCE ROMANCE WITH NO CLIFFHANGER ENDING.
I fell in love with Phoebe and Jeremy from the first page of this book.
Their love story is years in the making and what a ride it is! These two appear doomed from the start. Rich girl/poor boy, she wants to hide who she is, he wants to know every inch of her. From the start their chemistry is off the charts. These two are hot! But it’s not only sex with these two. They have a connection that scares the hell out of both of them.
I really connected with Phoebe. She is me in my 20’s, minus the hotel empire, rich friends, and father in jail for insider trading-hahaha! She is her own worst enemy at times. She knows what’s right but let’s toxic insecurities take hold and just cannot seem to break the habit.
Jeremy is not your typical bad boy turned knight in shining armor. He’s had the best of intentions all along, even if it didn’t appear like it. The irony wasn’t lost to me that the very scene he despised was the very scene that made him rich. But trust me when I tell you, not everything is as simple as that.
Phoebe and Jeremy’s story is much more than it looks. It is decades in the making, even if these two are unaware of the actions that brought them together. It seemed that one way or another, fate kept bringing them to find each other. The supporting characters are very strong, and each one is an integral piece to the puzzle. From best friends trying to have one last hurrah before adulthood to an eccentric French neighbor who’s wise words carry more weight than Phoebe realizes, this group has it all. I would love more Jamie and Lindsay. I think those two were perfect.
The last 20% of the book will have you on the edge of emotional distress. I couldn’t turn the pages of my kindle fast enough to see what happened next. The story comes together and all the twists and turns finally make sense. I give Toxic 5 deliciously hot kisses and cannot wait to see what Kim Karr does next.
