Title: Worth Saving
Author: W.S. Greer
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Published: October 17, 2015
When we first met, we were both lost. It was written in our eyes when we first saw each other. My past haunted me, your present haunted you. I could see that you were aching, yet trying to bury the pain deep down so that no one would know, but it was there. I saw it. I saw you.
I thought you needed me to swoop in and save the day; to be your hero, your knight in shining armor that would ride in and rescue you from the torment. And something inside drove me to a place I’d never been before. A place where it didn’t matter how stacked the odds were, because nothing would stand between us. Nothing would stand in the way of me being the savior you needed me to be, and I’d go to hell and back to protect you. I thought you needed me, but I was wrong.
It’s me who needs you. I need your heart next to mine in order to get over what I’ve been through, and to push through the obstacles that are in our way now. It won’t be easy. It’ll be the hardest thing either of us has ever had to endure, but as long as we make it through together, it’ll all be worth it, because you’re worth every bit of the struggle. It’s because of you that I can stare death in the face and not feel the slightest hint of fear. You make it all okay. You’re worth it. You’re worth saving.
“The story itself was amazing. Both Layla and Austin’s story hit home for me. Layla was so brave. She fought her way out of one hell into another.” ~ My Girlfriends Nook Korner
“The characters are real and it’s easy to see their pain. Click it up friends if you want a brutal love story along with a story of survival. It’s good. Give it a chance! Everyone is worth saving.” ~ Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets
I loved this book. I loved that both of the characters were flawed. They were both dealing with issues that were having a hard time overcoming. I liked that the story was told in a dual pov so we got to see how each character was dealing with their issues first hand, as well as how they were coping with the budding new relationship they were building.
Layla was the girl from the abusive home. She turned to the only job she felt she could get at the time and it turned in to something she didn’t think she could escape from. Layla was the “one day” girl, as I like to call them. One day she’ll break free, one day she’ll fulfill her dreams…she just needs to gather the strength to do it.
Austin. I fell in love with him the first time he was introduced. He had the opposite upbringing as Layla. Two parents, normal upbringing, military family, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined. After a mission gone wrong, he is left to deal with the aftermath and is dealing with ptsd. I felt that W.S. Greer really did a phenomenal job describing exactly what Austin was going through. What I liked about Austin was, he was normal. He wasn’t over the top, like so many characters are. He was a young man, home from war, going through hell trying to deal with the death of his friend.
While on the surface, Layla and Austin seem like one of the most unlikely pairs on the planet, I think that they are good for each other. He is just what she needs to prove to her that all men aren’t jerks. She is what he needs to help him through his ptsd. But don’t think these two are codependent, that isn’t the case at all. These two bring out the best in each other.
I want to thank W.S Greer for the Southpaw movie reference. You, sir, picked the movie for tonight’s movie night. And I also noticed there was a character from a previous book as well, and he did NOT give anything about the book away. I haven’t read that series yet, so for that, I thank you again. My interest is very piqued though!
