They’re rebels, scoundrels, and blackguards–dark, dashing men on the wrong side of the law. But for the women who love them, a hint of danger only makes the heart beat faster…

Dorian Blackwell, the Blackheart of Ben More, is a ruthless villain. Scarred and hard-hearted, Dorian is one of London’s wealthiest, most influential men who will stop at nothing to wreak vengeance on those who’ve wronged him…and will fight to the death to seize what he wants. The lovely, still innocent widow Farah Leigh Mackenzie is no exception–and soon Dorian whisks the beautiful lass away to his sanctuary in the wild Highlands…

But Farah is no one’s puppet. She possesses a powerful secret–one that threatens her very life. When being held captive by Dorian proves to be the only way to keep Farah safe from those who would see her dead, Dorian makes Farah a scandalous proposition: marry him for protection in exchange for using her secret to help him exact revenge on his enemies. But what the Blackheart of Ben More never could have imagined is that Farah has terms of her own, igniting a tempestuous desire that consumes them both. Could it be that the woman he captured is the only one who can touch the black heart he’d long thought dead??

They’re rebels, scoundrels, and blackguards–dark, dashing men on the wrong side of the law. But for the women who love them, a hint of danger only makes the heart beat faster…

A scandalous proposal…

Christopher Argent lives in the shadows as the empire’s most elite assassin. Emotion is something he tossed away years ago, making him one of the most clear-eyed, cold-hearted, wealthiest, and therefore untouchable men in London. But when his latest target turns out to be London’s own darling, Millicent LeCour, Christopher’s whole world is turned upside down. Overwhelmed by her stunning combination of seduction and innocence, Christopher cannot complete the mission. She has made him feel again. Now, he will do anything to save her life, even if it means risking his own…

A perilous passion…

When Millie learns what Christopher was hired to do, she is torn between the fear in her heart and the fire in her soul. Putting herself in this notorious hunter’s arms may be her only path to safety–even if doing so could be the deadliest mistake she’s ever made. But how can she resist him? As the heat between her and Christopher burns out of control, danger lurks in the shadows. Is their desire worth the risk? Only the enemy knows what fate has in store…

Kerrigan ByrnKerrigan has done many things to pay the bills, from law enforcement to belly dance instructor. Now she’s finally able to have the career she’d decided upon at thirteen when she announced to her very skeptical family that she was going to “grow up to be a romance novelist.” Whether she’s writing about Celtic Druids, Victorian bad boys, or brash Irish FBI Agents, Kerrigan uses her borderline-obsessive passion for history, her extensive Celtic ancestry, and her love of Shakespeare in almost every story.

Her first novel with St. Martin’s Press, THE HIGHWAYMAN, is available now and will be followed by THE HUNTER in February of 2016.

As always a big thank you to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for providing us with a copy of these books so that we could bring you this review.

I wrote 1 review for both books not because they can’t be read independently, but because I read both books back to back. As soon as I read the first book I knew I had to jump into the second one right away because I needed to know what happened with these characters next. In the first book Dorian and Farrah have a big connection one that you don’t exactly know why it exists until much later into the book. The way that they open up to each other and depend on each other is amazing. Though Farrah has spent much of her life living as a widow since she lost the man of her heart when she lost the man she loved deeply (even too young to know what love and marriage was all about). She knows there is only one person who would ever own her heart. She is willing to do anything, even marry a man she knows would never love her, to save herself from secrets and the past that can destroy her. Dorian has lived a hard life he has been through a lot and only wants to make sure he fulfills a promise once made. Its a pretty story about how people can change and redeem themselves and learn to trust when all has been lost in the past.

Some of this follows in the second book when Christopher learns he too must change and trust even after all the pain he’s suffered in the past. Millie has promised to not only herself but her son to always put them first, but when things aren’t going the way they should be and someone is out to hurt her because of what she knows and the past that she is always hiding, she needs to trust on a man who could easily be the one to end her. Christopher begins to fall in love with a woman, and this is something he never thought would ever be possible.

The one theme both these books have is that growth and trust building that two men who were tortured and lived dark pasts is possible. It is hard and something takes both these men some time to learn. And its two women who are strong and willing to prove they don’t need men to keep them safe, but also bring out the best in both these men.

I devoured both these books quickly which is why I give them both 5 regal kisses…

Happy Reading… Adri
