Review: The Best of Me & Anywhere You Are by Elisabeth Barrett

The-Best-of-Me_Barrett-225x300Jane Pringle never meant to fall for her boss. After landing a job as a pastry chef at the exclusive Briarwood Golf and Yacht Club in Eastbridge, Connecticut, she just wants to keep her son in a good school district and find some peace and quiet, far away from her manipulative ex-husband. But when Briarwood’s charismatic co-owner takes an interest in her, Jane’s best-laid plans go awry . . . in the sweetest way possible.

Rich and handsome, the grandson of one of the most powerful men in New York City, Preston North hasn’t lived quite the charmed life everyone believes. His family taught him everything he needs to know about betrayal—and Press wants no more of it. What he wants is Jane. The gorgeous single mom is selfless and kind, plus she’s got a backbone. To win her trust, Press just needs to shake off his playboy reputation.

They’ve each been burned in the past. But now Press and Jane will have to choose between letting their fears get the best of them . . . or breaking free and following their hearts.

As the daughter of a music legend, Grace Davingham knows all too well what it’s like to be burned by the media’s glare. Now all she wants is to be left to do her painting and conservation work in peace, with no intention of returning to the spotlight. But after she sprains her ankle hiking and a handsome real-estate mogul comes to her rescue, Grace once again finds herself in the public eye.

Sexy, successful, and averse to any attachments, Marcus Colby thrives on rigid discipline in order to manage both his real-estate investment company and his personal life. Marc has no time for fun, and no patience for crazy. Which is why meeting Grace—and inheriting an enormous Great Dane who won’t listen to a word he says—has turned Marc’s carefully constructed world upside down.

Only when Grace and Marc square off over a local controversy do they realize how different they really are. But if opposites attract, their love is destined to bind them together—forever.

elisabeth BarrettRaised in small-town Connecticut, Elisabeth spent most of her formative years playing the piano and reading everything she could get her hands on. In high school, she took a job at her local bookstore where she first discovered romance novels. She would stay long after closing time to squeeze in just one more chapter.

After working summers as a guest student at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, she studied biology as an undergraduate before attending law school. Elisabeth then spent nearly a decade working as a patent attorney, focusing her practice on both biotechnology litigation and prosecution. Inspired by those summers on Cape Cod, she started writing fiction . . . a habit she can’t seem to break.

Now a displaced New Englander, Elisabeth lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and spends her days teaching, editing, writing sexy contemporary romance, and enjoying time with her sometimes-bearded husband and three spirited children. She is constantly perfecting her home-work-writing juggling act, but in her free time she loves to hike open space preserves, grow orchids, bake sweet things her husband won’t eat, and sing in grand choruses.

As always my first thank you goes to Random House Loveswept and Netgalley providing us with a copy of these two books so that we could bring you this review.

Both these books are such sweet feel good love stories. Yes they have moments where you will be crying and looking for the tissues. The struggles that the couples go through is heart wrenching at times. Though Anywhere You Are does go back quite a bit back to something that happened during Once and Again it is important to help us understand the relationship between Grace and Marcus. As for Jane and Preston it is so sweet to see how he bonds and grows attached to Jane’s son. Both Marcus and Preston have in common the fact that the male influences in their lives are total douches and Jane and Grace have great strong family connections. I loved how they both became closer to their new friends and were able to start over after changes in their lives that brought them to Briarwood.

I give both these books 4 strong willed kisses…

Happy Reading… Adri
