I sat on my couch on a dreary Saturday afternoon, tears streaming down my face and read this book in one sitting. I’m talking full blown KKW ugly cry. The whole idea of student/teacher romances has always been one of my favorites, but this….this is something on another level. It’s like no other student/teacher book out there. This isn’t a pretty book. It’s dark, it’s beautiful, it’s so so wrong, but you want everything to be right.
What I wasn’t expecting was for me to open my mind a bit and see the ugly behind what should be a pretty black and white topic. The story behind these perfectly flawed characters is tragic, especially Cam’s. That girl will break your heart.
E.K. takes some pretty tough subject matter and tackles it head on. And she does it with a realness that comes through the pages. It’s so easy for us to judge what we don’t understand and she makes us understand. Throws it in our face and forces us to face what is a reality for so many people. I will admit that I walked away from this story with a different perspective than I had when I went in.
This book will consume you and I strongly encourage you to stock up on tissues and wine. And lots of both. This story will rip you to shreds, but it is so worth it
