Once upon a time, six children stumbled upon a wild place hidden deep in the moors, shrouded by secrets and fog. There we played a game among the roses and the thorns that would change us forever, that would follow us the rest of our lives. A game that ended with a hard kiss in the rain and tattered flower petals fluttering from above…

And twelve years later, we’re back.

The heir.
The dreamer.
The priest.
The genius.
The socialite.
The saint.

I’m not going to dream of a forgotten place covered in thorns every night.
I won’t be enchanted by Thornchapel and its glossy, glamorous people. I’m not going to fall in love or have my heart torn in two.

I’m not telling the truth.

Because as this place slowly tightens its coil of secrets and thorns around us, as we uncover the knotted mysteries that grow here, the six of us begin to unravel into filthy, holy pleasure and pain. Fulfilling the promise we once made as children in those whispering ruins, and awakening a fate that will either anoint us or leave us in ashes…

My Review

I honestly don’t know where to begin with this review. A Lesson in Thorns is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. The entire premise of the book is intriguing and the characters are entrancing. ALiT weaves love, religion, and secrets that go back generations in a way that this story invades your soul. I was drawn to Poe and her kinky innocence and I believe she is written that way for a purpose. Rebecca who’s aloofness is married with a strength that gives her an almost regal air about her. Delphine is the beauty you would love to hate, but her pixie like spirit makes it impossible not to love her. Beckett is one who’s fire is simmering just below the surface and when it is set free, it will be liberating. Saint is a tortured soul trying to find a place in a world where he shouldn’t belong, but it is the only place he feels like home in. Then there’s Auden with his secret desires and need to make those around him happy, even if that means suppressing the very thing that sets his soul on fire.
Sierra Simone has given us a world that I cannot get enough of. I cannot wait until we unlock more of Thornchapel’s secrets
